Sustainability Story
“At Sababu Safaris, we believe that travel should have a lasting, positive impact—not only on the people and wildlife of Africa but also on the planet itself. From the very beginning, our philosophy has been rooted in responsible tourism: ensuring that every journey we create not only transforms our guests but also supports conservation and local communities.
Recognizing the urgent need to combat climate change, we took a deep dive into how we could best offset our carbon footprint. We chose Stand For Trees because of their transparency, real impact, and dedication to protecting forests while empowering local communities. Rather than engaging in token efforts, we wanted a solution that truly makes a difference—one that prevents deforestation at its source.
That’s why we support the Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project in Kenya—the first REDD+ project in the world to issue Verified Emission Reductions under the VCS (Verified Carbon Standard). This groundbreaking initiative protects over 500,000 acres of threatened forest, preventing the release of more than 45 million tonnes of CO2 while creating sustainable opportunities for over 116,000 local residents. Through carbon credit revenues, the project funds job creation, education, clean water access, women’s empowerment, and agricultural development, ensuring that conservation directly benefits the people who depend on the land. Beyond climate impact, Kasigau safeguards critical habitats for some of Africa’s most endangered wildlife, including elephants, Grevy’s zebras, cheetahs, lions, and African wild dogs. By preventing deforestation and promoting sustainable development, this project proves that conservation and community prosperity can go hand in hand.
For every guest who travels with us, we offset their entire carbon footprint—from international flights to safari adventures—through the purchase and retirement of verified carbon credits. These credits directly fund projects like Kasigau, ensuring that the forests remain standing, wildlife thrives, and local communities benefit.”
